In “A Grain of Wheat” the year is 1963. The place is Kenya. Uhuru - Independence Day - is to come. The day where the colonized and colonizers reflect on their achievements and losses.
In Thabai, the rebel leader, Kihika, was betrayed to the whiteman. Gikonoyo was imprisoned and his marriage was destroyed. The brave survivor, Mugo, harbours a terrible secret.
“A Grain of Wheat” is an explosion of love, friendship, war and betrayal. The implied get their love and friendships challenged and they are forced to compromise.
